It's time of the year again to roast a turkey, bake a fruit cake, log cake, Christmas pudding, clean up the house, set up the Christmas tree, wrap up the gifts and get yourself ready for a warm Christmas gathering with your folks and friends!
Every Christmas, I'll wrap up some small gifts for my dearest girlfriends, and we will meet up for high tea or dinner before Christmas Day to exchange our gifts. Shopping for Christmas gifts is always fun and challenging, I'm one who would like to keep my gifts sweet and practical, so this year, I've decided to bake some joy for all my dear friends - Gingerbread-man!
I went on YouTube and Google to search for recipe, but I found this in NTUC while I was ready with a list of ingredients on my mind, isn't it a blessing?
I know I know that I should start from scratch, but certain ingredients like dried ginger powder, nutmeg, all spice etc comes in a huge bottle and all I need is a teaspoon or less than that, that's not very cost efficiency, so this green's gingerbread man cookies mix comes in handy!
All you need for baking the cookies are 1 egg, some water, 20g butter, baking tray, baking sheets and that's it. It even comes with a gingerbread man cookie cutter!
I bought a pack of different sizes gingerbread man cookie cutter from daiso, a tube of white icing for decoration, and the m&n chocolates are provided in the pre mix.
Just follow the instruction, put everything into a deep large bowl, slowly and patiently mix them thoroughly and then use your hands to form into a dough and wrap it up with a cling wrap.
Look at my gingie! Remember to space them out a little as they will expand during the baking.
Once they are cooked, cool them on a wire rack until they are completely cool before storing them in a cookie jar! I left my gingie to cool for a day.
And then the most interesting part of all - decorating them!! You can buy different colors of icing, or made the icing yourself, instruction provided on the premix box, to decorate the gingerbread man. I only use white to keep it simple. Remember to allow sufficient time for the icing to set and harden, I put them in the fridge about 30 mins.
And I've got these little bags from daiso to pack my gingerbread man individually, and now they are ready to be given out to my friends. I hope they will like it!
This is my first attempt in baking and decorating gingerbread man, I know they look plain and not so pretty, and the cookies are not sweet too. If you are buying Green's gingerbread man cookie mix to bake your gingerbread man, you might want to add in 50g - 100g of brown/castor sugar into the premix to make them tasty. Besides being a little blend, I like the light hint of ginger and spice of the cookie, my whole house smell so Christmassy while baking them!
I have got 2 boxes of the premix and should be baking my 2nd batch next week for my Christmas dinner with my husband and family. I hope this time it will turn out better!
Til then, enjoy the very last month of 2013! Take care...
Xoxo,
Missy_Celine
